Villa Jembar Lawang Bali

Other Private Villas - Canggu - Price range: From US$ 500 >

The impressive Villa Jembar Lawang is completely encompassed by emerald rice fields and is situated just a few minutes walk from the rugged beach at the ancient fishing village of Canggu on Bali's west coast. Built on 2,200 square metres of land, the property can sleep up to five couples, with four bedrooms and a spacious library that can also serve as a bedroom. The villa was designed by the acclaimed Balinese architect Popo Danes, who was recently honoured with the 'Indonesian Institute of Architect' award for his efforts in promoting contemporary Balinese architecture in its proper way.

The style of the villa is contemporary and elegant; a group of eight or ten people can stay at the house, very comfortably, without encroaching on each others' space. It was specifically designed to maximise the wonderful panoramic views, and offers the ultimate in private luxury for those who seek tranquillity combined with a high standard of service. Jembar Lawang means "large open door or gate" in the Javanese language. It is an indirect expression for "warm welcome", which is substantiated by the antique statues of a Javanese wedding couple, waiting to welcome the guests as they step over the threshold.

Private Pool Villa - Villa Jembar Lawang Bali

Indeed, guests entering the property for the first time, as they cross over a small ornamental pond, will have no idea what to expect behind the large front door. They will be surprised when they find that the doorway leads into a magnificent, semi-circular, open living area supported by towering Romanesque columns and harmonised by a cool terracotta tiled floor. Looking out over the flat green lawn and furnished with antique daybeds, a large dining table, and low antique retro tables, this is an ideal place for relaxing or socialising; perfect for a party, a reception or a lazy lunch. This imposing living area is the main focus of the property and is flanked on either side by corresponding two-storey wings, which accommodate the bedroom suites, the library, the entertainment room, two additional ground floor shower rooms, the kitchen and the laundry.

There are four double bedrooms, two in each wing, boasting spacious en-suite terrazzo bathrooms. The light and airy bedrooms also feature built-in wardrobes, chunky antique furniture, timber floors, picture windows and large sliding glass doors. One of the bedrooms has a romantic four-poster bed. The downstairs bedrooms are each complemented by a terrace overlooking the garden, and the upstairs bedrooms each feature a large stone balcony with an attractive balustrade, furnished with daybeds and enhanced by pots of bougainvillea and stunning views of the rice fields. Each of the en-suite bathrooms with its terrazzo fixtures, has its own distinct characteristics; some of the bathrooms are entered by stepping through beautiful old wooden doors and feature slate paved floors, bathtubs, and 'his and hers' washbasins; others feature open-air garden showers surrounded by pebbles and plants, another displays a carved white Palimanan stone frieze on the exterior wall.

The library, which can also double as an additional bedroom, is situated upstairs and is furnished with an antique, hand-carved and canopied, ceremonial marriage bed. This room also features an en-suite bathroom and a large balcony; facing west, this is a place to enjoy beautiful sunsets and more of those spectacular views, accompanied by the sounds of cicadas, frogs and the distant murmur of the waves.

The entertainment room, downstairs in the opposite wing of the villa, is a cosy snug where guests can relax in air-conditioned comfort with a satellite TV, DVD player, and a 'Bose' surround sound system.

Bulrush ponds border the villa, and the flat lawns of the walled garden are dotted with coconut trees, but the attractive grounds of the property are deliberately not crowded with plants and shrubs, therefore ensuring that it retains the feeling of space. An 18 x 4 metre infinity edge lap pool runs the width of the garden at the top end, sheltered by a grassy terrace. A thatched 'bale', a traditional Balinese relaxation pavilion, is situated on one side of the pool.

The spacious kitchen, where the staff will prepare a wide range of delicious meals from an innovative menu, is fully equipped with wooden fitted cupboards and a modern stainless steel hob and oven. A laundry is situated at the back of the kitchen, and other practicalities, such as the staff quarters and the garage are taken care of in the service area beside the ample car park, leaving the remainder of the house free for the guests to enjoy.

The peaceful, coastal village of Canggu is set within a beautiful agricultural region located between Kuta and Tanah Lot. The area is home to some of the most luxurious private villas on the island, and is situated forty minutes from Bali's International Airport and fifteen minutes from one of the best golf courses in Asia. Remarkably laidback and undeveloped, this out of town setting offers the double attraction of being relatively close to everything that guests might need, while also offering visitors a privileged insight into the traditions of rural Bali. The local population make their living from fishing and farming; ducks are herded through the rice fields, the sound of gamelan music is carried on the breeze, and religious ceremonies are an integral part of daily life. The sweeping beach is renowned for its panoramic coastline views and legendary sunsets. It has some world-class surf breaks but the currents are strong and it is dangerous for swimming. The trendy Seminyak area, a mere twenty minutes drive away, offers wide choice of international restaurants, chic cocktail bars, exciting nightclubs, lavish spas and elegant shops. The nearby Nirwana Golf Course, designed by Greg Norman, is close to the famous Tanah Lot sea temple - one of the island's most dramatic and venerated temples, perched on a craggy wave-lashed rock just at the edge of the frothing white surf and glistening black shoreline. Guests staying at Villa Jembar Lawang will also enjoy Hotel Tugu, situated a few minutes walk away, beside the beach at Canggu. The hotel is a living museum of priceless antiques and rare cultural artifacts, and it also offers the attractions of fine dining together with the facilities of a delightful spa.

Party Facilities at Villa Jembar Lawang
The extensive open space within the secluded garden, combined with the grandiose of the living area, makes Villa Jembar Lawang the ideal tropical setting for parties, weddings, reunion celebrations, barbeques and other functions. The sizeable modern kitchen provides the staff with the equipment and facilities to cater for a wide variety of events and a large number of guests. Special events can also be coordinated by professional outside caterers who have the world-class expertise to prepare a sumptuous feast at the villa, in addition to the coordination of decorations, flowers, lighting, sound systems and entertainment. A small family group can be indulged with a sizzling barbeque beside the pool at sunset. The poolside bale can be set up as an alfresco dining pavilion, guests can spill out onto the patio, and the elevated terrace behind the pool can be utilized as a stage for Balinese dance performances. The open-air living area is perfect for a cocktail reception, and the garden is large enough to comfortably accommodate up to one hundred guests. A car and driver are available at an additional cost.

Spain Holidays - Villa Rentals - Finding the Best Accommodation For Your Spanish Summer Holiday

Spain is a fantastic country with a hot, sunny Mediterranean climate. With up to 300 days of sun a year, it's the ideal place to book your summer holiday.

But where are the places to stay? Well first of all let's have a think about the many costas. No, I'm not talking about a well known coffee chain, but the many Spanish Coasts. Costa is quite simply the Spanish word for coast. The most popular Costas are the Costa Brava, Costa Del Sol, Costa Blanca, and Costa Dorada, and you're bound to find a fantastic sun filled Spain Vacation if you book your accommodation here.

As for price - well they needn't Costa lotta! Break with the stereotypical hotels and think about booking your own accommodation online through a holiday rentals website. More of that a little further on!

As well as the Costas there are the Balearic Islands. These come under Spain, but are beautiful sunny Mediterranean islands, just off the coast. The most popular of the Balearics is Ibiza. Hundreds of thousands of people flock here every year and have a great time. Ibiza is famed for its' bar and club culture, and nowhere encapsulates this more than the town of San Antonio. The other Balearic Islands are Formantera, Menorca and Majorca (AKA Mallorca). Again these are sun drenched islands where you can relax and get a great tan! Holidays in the Balearics are one of my recommendations for your next summer vacation.

The other popular Spanish islands are the Canary Islands. Canary Islands holiday destinations are Fuerteventura, Tenerife, El Hierro, Gran Canaria, Lagamera, La Palma and the ever popular Lanzarote. As the Canary Islands are volcanic, you can expect to find black sand. But don't let the thought and photos put you off -you'll hardly notice when your laid back in your deck chair with a large jug of fruity Sangria!

Back on the mainland there are more places I can recommend for your Spain Holidays. We've talked about the Costas but think a little more about holidays inland. Why? Well not only do you still find the warm and sunny climate, but you'll find some amazingly interesting places.

Holidays in Andalucia (and Inland Andalucia) are filled with touristic places to visit and things to see and do. City breaks in Barcelona are a must and then there's Madrid - the Real Madrid (pun intended) where you can explore the capital city as part of your Spanish Vacation.

Bullfighting is still a popular tourist attraction in Spain, but I'll leave it up to you to decide whether or not this is for you. Why not go and see some traditional Spanish Flamenco dancing, and get up and try some yourself!

Food in Spain is certainly interesting, and the locals make some very interesting meals. Try Tapas, which you can eat in many of the Spain Tapas bars. Paella is certainly not pastry surrounding meat and gravy! No, Paella is a Spanish dish made from a base ingredient of rice, and is absolutely delicious.

So, how do we make it "Costa notta lotta?" Well quite simply arrange the holiday yourself. Budget airlines can now get you to Spain from many major UK airports for less than £30! How Easy? Well it's as easy as using the web.

And the web is best place for you to find your accommodation! Search Spain Holidays by using a holiday rentals website. You'll be able to browse hundreds of Spanish properties at prices that will suit your budget. And they're from the owners direct, so you can try out your haggling skills before you even set off to your destination! With the credit crunch biting, owners are as desperate for bookings as you are for bargains so deals are there to be done.

My personal recommendation is to book a Holiday Villa in Spain. Why? Well, a Villa in Spain is likely to be large enough to take your whole family comfortably. You may even get your own private swimming pool!

Spain Villas can be traditional in style so that you can really understand how the Spanish people live. OR they can be modern and have Plasma / LCD TVs, Gyms, Jacuzzis and all the modern comforts that you may want.

The key thing is that by using a rentals website, you have the choice. All the decisions are yours! You're not going to be dictated to by hotels and their rules, your holiday is really YOUR holiday.

So, go ahead and book your holiday in Spain today!

Algarve Villa Rental

The Algarve has become a popular destination and is widely known Europe's most well kept secret. As the Tourism Board continues to brand the Algarve as an upmarket destination, the demand for villa rentals has increased dramatically. The Algarve is one of the most affordable destinations for villa holiday rentals and this is partly due to the high level of investment in the property market which has led to a number of second homes being left empty for most of the year. With the introduction of a F1 racing circuit and over 30 premier golf courses, the Algarve has a lot more than sea, sun and sand. In fact, many villas are situated on golf resorts and some benefit from the sporting facilities on site which often include tennis courts, archery, bowling, sailing and other resort activities. In order to find your perfect holiday rental there are 5 basic steps to follow which will ensure that you make the most informed choice:

1. Research the area. The Algarve has a vast array of landscapes and activities that vary depending on the location. If you are looking for a quiet retreat, why not consider a Quinta in the Monchique mountains, or a cottage in rural Vila do Bispho? On the other hand, there are beach villas in many of the resort towns such as Albufeira, where you can have access to night life, sandy beaches and other common amenities found in built up holiday destinations.

2. Set a Budget. Villas in the Algarve range from just £200 per week and some fetch as much as £15,000! Decide on how many people will be staying at the villa and work out what the cost per head is. This is an easy way of establishing how much a villa would cost compared to say 2 apartments or 2 hotel rooms. If you are looking for a golf or beach villa, expect to pay up to 50% more as these villas usually incur the owner extra charges such as service charges and resort taxes.

3. Find a reputable Rental Site. There are a number of rental sites, some with thousands of properties from all over the world. Try and find a site that advertises locally and generates its user base in the country you are looking to travel. Portugal has 2 niche holiday rental sites.

4. Ask Questions. To avoid disappointment ask as many questions as possible. You will want to know more about the area. If possible, ask for a full address and look at Google Maps or Google Earth to verify that the description is corresponds with the map location etc. Ensure that the rental price includes cleaning to avoid being subjected to additional charges being deducted from your deposit.

5. Avoid paying via internet 3rd party payment processors or using your debit card. The best way to pay for your rental is via credit card. This is because your issuer will reimburse you for any losses including those that might be a result of fraud or criminal activity. While rental web sites take every precaution to prevent this from happening, it is up to the renter to ensure that every precaution has been made before making a booking.

If you follow these 5 basic steps, hopefully you will find the best rental villa to suit your needs when you visit the Algarve. The Algarve is a lovely place to visit and is probably one of the fastest growing villa rental destinations in the world.

Tips For Successful Villa Vacation Rentals

1) Never expect a profit! Be happy with covering some of your costs while the underlying asset value of the property appreciates or until such a time ( as in our case) you can retire and spend more time in your second home

2) Continually invest in your property. This is one of the reasons that profit is unlikely. The property needs to be kept in tip top condition. The vacation villa rental market is competitive and if you want to have a high occupancy, at good rates, then a well maintained property is key.

3) The value of repeat bookings. If a property is well maintained and guests have a great time it goes without saying that they will want to return. The marketing costs associated with repeat bookings are lower and your occupancy rates will be higher. We also try and add some "improvement" each year so that there is always something new and better when guests return.

4) Put yourselves in the shoes of your guests. Each time that we spend time at our house we actively think about what would make the house even better. Maybe it is another shade area or maybe a table next to a chaise lounge on which to place a drink. Not everything has to be widely expensive it's just more a mindset about how one can achieve the maximum relaxation. After all it is a vacation home!

5) Equip the house well and tastefully but not with your highly valued treasures! Things will get broken and therefore you don't want to be devastated when an expensive personal possession is damaged. Today there is so much great design at reasonable prices that a house can look great without having to spend a fortune. Conversely, do not take the attitude that everything will get broken and therefore I am going to equip it in the cheapest, tackiest way.

6) If possible, and especially in the islands have a property manager or caretaker resident on the premises, preferably in a self contained unit, which insures the privacy of your guests. If this is not possible due to the configuration of your vacation rental then insure that you have a great property management company which checks very regularly on the property.

7) Do not grant "exclusive" marketing deals to any one company. The more entities marketing your property the better. Also leverage the internet. It is quite incredible, if done properly, how effective it is to market your property through the internet. It is also very cost effective.

8) Do have your own website with great photos whether you use the internet for marketing or not. This saves significantly on the cost of marketing materials and your information can be updated on a regular basis without rendering all your beautiful glossy ( and expensive) marketing materials obsolete.

9) Use the "low" or "off season" to perform in depth cleaning e.g. fans, ceilings, screens etc. so that your property is pristine for the beginning of the high season when hopefully you have back to back bookings!

10) Make your vacation rental property "unique" in some way. Maybe it's the location or the views. Maybe it's the decoration or the equipment. Study your competition to see how you might make your property even more appealing.

11) Go "above and beyond" for your guests. Exceed their expectations. Maybe it's the "welcome basket" you provide upon their arrival or maybe it's the provisioning service. Anything that speeds up their ability to relax and make themselves at home will pay dividends.

I am sure there are many more items but these have been the ones that have brought us success. Happy renting!

Villa Rentals Help You Truly Explore Goa

If you love relaxing on a beach and wish to develop a glowing tan on your skin that you can show off to your friends, there is no place better to visit than Goa. Despite being one of the smallest Indian states, this beautiful area attracts vacationers from around the world. Although most people think that a holiday here suits mainly youngsters, tourism data suggests that all generations of travelers find that Goa has much to offer. The most popular way to stay here is by taking advantage of the surprisingly inexpensive Villa Rentals.

Like every good coastal spot, Goa offers scenic beaches, plenty of sun, and the opportunity to participate in water sports such as snorkeling, scuba diving, paragliding, and sailing. But that is not all there is to experience. If you happen to book a package tour and stay in a resort while you are in Goa, you will most likely have minimal contact with the richness of its culture. However, if you choose to book your stay in a villa rental where your inquisitiveness is your only guide, you can delve much deeper into the area's history and culture.

You will be pleasantly surprised to find that villa rentals are much cheaper than luxury resorts and hotels. These accommodations help you explore Goa like a true traveler. There is no one holding your hand and making you walk the well worn path of guided tours.

While you vacation here, you can explore the beautiful cathedrals and play on the clean beaches along the vast shoreline. If you wish to venture further than you can comfortably do on foot, there are bicycles for rent to speed you on your way. Evenings are the best time for a romantic ferry ride, so be sure to set aside some time to enjoy a couple of nights on the water.

Some people are misled to believe that you will be inconvenienced since the Goa villa rentals are self-catering. However, in reality, not including meals with villa rentals ensures that you venture out to the numerous shanties where you can enjoy the vast array of authentic local cuisine. The sea food is amazing and the local port wines go very well with the food.

You may be surprised to notice familiar western touches in your villa. This is not a deliberate attempt to attract foreign tourists, but rather, it is testimony to the historical influence of the Portuguese culture on Goan culture. This is why your vacation to this relatively undiscovered state is the best way to enjoy a western style vacation in India.

What to Pack on Your Caribbean Villa Vacation

If this is your first villa vacation, you are probably wondering what to bring with you and what will be provided at the villa. This varies depending on location and nightly rate of the villa rental so the focus will be on moderate priced Caribbean villas. The higher the rate, the more amenities and services you will receive.

Most of the villas will not come stocked with shampoo, conditioner, lotion, dishwashing soap etc. like you have at a hotel so you will need to provide your own. With today's luggage regulations, I would recommend purchasing these items which are usually readily available after you arrive at your destination. Some villas offer a pre-stocking service, if you do not want to go grocery shopping. However, if you do have a favorite product that you can't live without, I would bring it with you since the selection is limited and the price is high.

You are going to the Caribbean so of course you will need sunscreen. Sunscreen is available at a high price and the stores may not have the SPF that you are looking for. So I would pack sunscreen in your checked luggage and put it in a zip lock baggie. Most of the time in the tropical environment of the Caribbean bug spray is necessary especially if you are prone to bug bites, so I would pack a small bottle in your checked luggage.

In addition to the obvious items such as your bathing suit, clothes, sweater (it can get chilly in the evenings and in the air-conditioning), other items to remember are: Water shoes, sunglasses, umbrella, camera and passport depending on which island you are traveling to.

Lastly, make sure to pack in your carry on luggage, a bathing suit (in case your luggage gets lost, you can still swim in the pool or ocean), medicines, camera and important documentation.

Planning Your Villa Holiday

If you are in need of a break away from the unpredictable British weather, then a Villa holiday could be just the thing you need.

Villa holidays provide an altogether different experience to say that of a hotel. They're a home away from home, only with guaranteed sunshine and the option of having your own swimming pool!

They're great for families large and small and when it comes to choice of locations then you can take your pick from practically anywhere in the world.

Before you book your dream villa holiday then here are a few things to consider first...

Cooking - Most villa holidays are self catering with the majority providing well equipped kitchens; however, it's a good idea to enquire about the cooking facilities before you leave.

Swimming Pools - One of the main attractions to villa holidays is having your very own pool. If you are travelling with young children then check the features of the pool to see if it is safe for children. For example, does the pool have a shallow end that is safe for toddlers and children to enter safely? Also, check to see if the pool is exclusive to just your villa, as some pools are shared with other villas nearby.

Budget - The prices of villas varies greatly. Think about how much you are willing to spend, while also remembering to include additional expenses such as hire cars and flights etc. Villas are normally charged weekly for the entire property, not per person. With this in mind, make sure that you don't rent a property that is too large for the number of people in your group.

Villa Leha-Leha Bali

Villa Leha-Leha takes its name from the Javanese word for peace, day-dreaming, relaxing, or being empty-minded while lying prostrate and gazing at the sky! It's an appropriate title for this enchanting four bedroom retreat, complete with swimming pool and plunge pools, nestled on the edge of a steep sided valley through which Bali's sacred Ayung River wends it way on the final stage of its journey to the sea.

Living Pavilion
The large two-storey living pavilion incorporates two living areas on two different levels.

The downstairs open-sided living room is encompassed by fish ponds and a timber deck. This breezy raised pavilion presides over the pool and garden and its marble floor is gracefully furnished with an Oriental rug, lazy chairs, sofa, standard lamp and a coffee table. A 42-inch, flat screen, multi-channel TV, DVD, CD player and radio stereo system is discretely housed within a wooden cabinet, and there is also a comprehensive collection of videos, books and games. The decor is enhanced by some colourful local artwork and artifacts; a ceiling fan helps to keep the area cool and blinds can be dropped for privacy.

A guest washroom is located downstairs, just off the living room.

The upstairs lounge is accessed from the dining room, via a sliding door that leads onto a Palimanan stone staircase. This peaceful lounge is another wonderful, breezy open-air space. It features a teakwood floor under a soaring thatched roof, and is furnished with wide opium daybeds, a pair of leather Kartini chairs and an Oriental rug. Boasting a splendid view of the garden and the river valley extending to the ocean, this is a great area for chilling out and relaxing with a book. Every need is considered with the additional provision of a ceiling fan.

Work Room
An all-glass Cathedral window extends from the roof to the ground floor, and separates the upstairs lounge from the air-conditioned work room. This delightful study presents a teak desk with a computer and internet access for the use of the guests. An eye-catching painting adorns one wall, and a long Oriental rug rests on the warm timber floor, together with leather-upholstered Kartini chairs and a bookcase full of magazines.

To one side of the work room is an open-air stone terrace surrounded by a balustrade.

Dining Room
The air-conditioned dining room is linked to the downstairs Living Room by two sets of Palimanan stone steps. With a marble floor, and large glass sliding doors on three sides, the room has an open feeling; it is furnished with a dining table for eight, and fitted with a glass-fronted teak cabinet.

Kitchen
The small but well-equipped air-conditioned kitchen is conveniently positioned next to the dining room. It features a marble service counter, marble work tops and teakwood wall cabinets.

On the far side of the kitchen is an attractive water court, with large stepping stones across the fish pond. Carved water-spouting griffins create a serene ambience with the constant sound of running water.

Bedrooms
Villa Leha-Leha is equipped with four self-contained bedroom suites, each located in private thatched pavilions and each one linked to its own indoor bathroom and private outdoor shower. Two of the bedrooms boast private plunge pools, and two are supplied with music systems. Each marble-floored, air-conditioned bedroom is furnished with a queen-size four poster canopied bed, a chair, bedside tables and lamps, while bold local artwork adorns the walls. Dressing areas, with fitted cupboards and walls mirrors, lead into marble bathrooms each complete with twin washbasins, a bathtub, an indoor shower and a toilet hidden behind a teak door. Each bathtub is positioned beside a picture window with doors opening into a small private walled garden. These doors can be opened to create an alfresco bathing experience, and there is also an open-air shower in each of the private gardens.

A fifth bedroom (without en-suite bathroom), furnished with up to four extra single beds, is ideal for children.

Garden and Swimming Pool
The beautiful landscaped gardens of Villa Leha-Leha are planted with sweet scented flowering shrubs and tropical trees. The freeform, infinity-edge swimming pool overhangs the river valley and is flanked by a stone pool deck. At one end of the pool are some sunken stone bar stools flanking a pool bar with an attractive ironwood shingle roof.

Location
Quiet and safe, Villa Leha-Leha is ideally situated in a rural setting five minutes from Sindhu Beach and the historical village of Sanur. The nearby Sanur-Kusumba by-pass, which extends from Seminyak to East Bali, positions the villa within easy driving distance of most of Bali's tourist attractions. The diversity of Bali presents everything from diving, cruising and trekking, to adventure sports and theme parks. Horse riding takes place just a few kilometres away at Saba stables, and three of the best golf courses in the world are located within easy driving distance. The villa is just twenty-five minutes' drive from Bali's international airport, forty minutes from the cultural town of Ubud, fifteen minutes from Sukawati art and handicraft market, and conveniently close to the Island's numerous spas, shops, restaurants and vibrant nightspots.
