Palaces in Denpasar, Bali

Pemecutan Palace This is one of some palaces opened to visitors located on Jalan Thamrin 2, Denpasar, one of the tourist-packages offered in Denpasar city-tour program. It is about 200 meters from Puputan Badung Park to the West and close to the two traditional markets: Pasar Badung and Pasar Kumbasari. The traditional Balinese-architectured palace was built around 17 th century and nowadays managed by the last King of Denpasar : Ida Cokorda Pemecutan. The palace is also completed with accommodation for those who want to stay and enjoy the royal atmosphere. Satria Palace The palace that rebuilt in 1930 is also one of the palaces set up as one of points of interest of Denpasar city-tour program. It is located on Jalan Veteran, right at the heart of Denpasar, inside of which the royal-family temple, "Pemerajan Puri Agung Satria" is located, where some traditional entertainments are often on stage, especially during the temple's anniversary celebration (every 210 days according to the Balinese calendar), or often held on request by some tour-operators. In front of the temple one can find the Bird market (Pasar Burung) which is also another attraction for visitors and the locals mainly those of animal-lovers. Satria Palace has a very specific architecture, a kind of building-design called "Pendopo" in which a meeting of the Kings of Bali was held in the past. Satria Palace is not far from the other places of interest previously mentioned like: Bali Museum, Jagatnatha Temple and Puputan Badung Park.

Jro Kuta Palace

Instead of Satria and Pemecutan Palace, Jro Kuta Palace is also included into the City-tour package. It is located very closely to the heart of Denpasar city about 300m from Pasar Badung and Pasar Kumbasari, the traditional markets. The palace's main attraction is its 9 specific buildings called: "Ancak Saji", "Semanggen", "Rangki", Pewaregan", "Saren Raja", "Saren Kangin", "Paseban", "Pemerajan Agung", the holy place and "Pekandelan" with their respective functions. The other building is the palace's fortress against the enemy's attack. Jro Kuta Palace is located on Jalan Kumbakarna or about 100m from Maospahit Temple previously mentioned.

Denpasar City

Denpasar is the capital city of the province of Bali, Indonesia. It is also the site of Ngurah Rai International Airport, the main gateway to Bali. Denpasar means ‘by the market’ and is Bali’s only real city. Denpasar is home to Balinese people from all over the island who work in Kuta. For a Javanese person Denpasar is home from home. Many people live in Denpasar, including Balinese, Javanese and others from around the country. Denpasar is ‘local friendly’ in that rent, food and almost anything else is cheap and you will find food vendors from many parts of Indonesia.

Denpasar is the only municipality in Bali, being the largest center of population. Culturally its an interesting mix of Denpasar natives, Balinese from other parts of the island who work in Kuta other and Indonesians, particularly Javanese. Indonesians will tell you Denpasar has a community feel, where neighbours help each other, the affordable long term accommodation options and assortment of food make it popular with Indonesian tourists. Denpasar offers easy access to all the main attractions in South Bali and surrounding areas including exclusive Bali shopping and site seeing in Ubud, Tanah Lot, Kuta and Legian.

SANUR

Sanur beach has long been a popular recreation site for people from Denpasar and elsewhere. located on the eastern coast of Bali is the ideal beach for snorkelling as it is protected by a coral reef. The palm lined beach curves from the Bali Beach Hotel toward the south, facing the Indian Ocean to wards the east. Sanur is Bali's first beach resort, it is also Bali's largest traditional village.

Sanur is where Bali's first luxury beach hotel was built over 30 years ago, and has since been the spot for luxurious seaside accommodation. Conveniently located near Denpasar on the main road leading to the east, Sanur is not nearly as frenetic as Kuta, nor as well-mannered as Nusa Dua. Many foreigners have built lavish villas and bungalows here and this is the preferred place for up-market, long-term stays on the island, especially in the BatuJimbar and Belanjong areas.
The main attraction here is the white sand beach bordering a reef-sheltered lagoon. The beach stretches south from the The Grand Bali Beach Hotel and ends up in the mangrove marshes opposite Serangan Island. Due to the protection of the lagoon, this beach is one of the safest on the island, and thus perfect for families. There is no surf apart from out on the reef, and one cannot swim at low tide, but at other times this is the best place in Bali for windsurfing and sailing.

Sanur offers many good hotels, restaurants, shops and other tourist facilities. It is only a shot distance from Denpasar public transportation to and from the city are easily available until well into night.

Sanur can be divided into several sub-areas:

The Grand Bali Beach Hotel area. West and south of the hotel, at the point where the black and the white sand beaches meet. This northern section of Sanur is popular with local crowds.

Sindhu is east of JI. Bypass Ngurah Rai, and south of JI. Segara Ayu, extending south to the first stretch of JI. Danau Tamblingan. This area is classier, with good hotels on the beach, night and art markets, and good restaurants.

Batujimbar, further south, has few hotels, but is the location of expatriate and Indonesian jet set society mansions. Exclusive beaches are reached via small lanes.
Semawang stretches south from the Bali Hyatt Hotel to the Sanur Beach Hotel and beyond. It houses both the priciest hotels and restaurants, as well as the red light district.

Offshore reefs protect the beach against the waves and make it popular for windsurfing, boating and other water sports.

The Interesting Places of Denpasar

Denpasar is the capital city of Bali. Denpasar houses government offices, banks, and many other offices. Pura Jagatnatha, a temple dedicated to the Sang Hyang Widi (Supreme God), has been converted into a Musium. The status of a turtle and two dragons in the temple signify the foundation of the world. The Pura's architecture resembles that of a Balinese palace. It houses a fine variety of early and modern art.
Sanggraha Kriya Hasta is a government-supervised art center, home to a wide variety of handicraft and works of art. Werdi Budaya presents a yearly art festival between June and July, with performances, exhibitions, art contest, and other artistic activities.

Denpasar is now a city of 400,000 inhabitants and more vehicles per capita than Jakarta. Many first-time visitors to Bali make the mistake of skipping Denpasar in their tour of the island. But in fact there is much to do and see here. There's a leafy, expansive art centre, a museum, and a colourful and cheap market in Jl. Sulawesi and Jl Sumatera. There are also several department stores and supermarkets. Early mornings are recommended as the midday sun can be draining.

The Interesting Places of Denpasar :

1. Sanur Beach

Sanur located of south east from denpasar. Its coast sand to turn white and most of spektakuler is the sunrise view. Its coast is calm so that make the many people play at the kano and boat. There is The Pura Segara on Jl Segara Ayu and Pura MertaSari with the supernatural force.

2. Benoa Harbour

Left of the causeway, yachts lie at anchor in the bay, on the right are replantings of mangrove. The cruise boats for the small islands east of bali are found near the marina. Colorful old commercial fishing boats are tucked away on the other side of benoa harbour

3. Mangrove Forest

Located in Pemogan, Denpasar with the view of mangrove tree which beautiful scenary. There is tower facility offering view of mangrove forest and also beautiful view Benoa Harbour.In here also there is Narmada Temple and a Klenteng (temple for the Budha's people) laid at adjoin.

4. Monumen Bajra Sandi

In form of like temple, lies at a wide field encircled by few leaves only grove. In it there are museum and tower. In every morning and afternoon also holiday, many people which squat and jogging and do sport activity.

5. Bali Musium and Puputan Square

The museum’s architectures is itself a subject of this ethnological museum. The collection are very fine.

6. Pura Jagatnatha

Just next door to the museum, The Pura Jagatnatha is a temple founded in the 1970’s whose principal deity is Sang Hyang Widi Wasa, The Godhead of the Hindu Balinese.

Located at Jalan Nusa Indah, It is the grandest and the most succesfull at meeting its high-minded ambitions. The art center has a number of different services and events, the famous being Pekan Kesenian Bali (PKB)/The Art Festival which is held every year in June or July, but a visit is worthwhile any day.
